Give Information

  • It is also important that health professionals are able to get important information about their patient.
  • You might need to help them provide information about important things such as:
    • The patient’s medical history
    • Any family history of illness (especially cancer)
    • The patient’s lifestyle
    • The patient’s support network
  • If you feel there is relevant information that the health professional should know, it’s a good idea to share it with them.
  • Some patients appreciate if their carer helps them to better understand the information. For example, some carers rephrase what the health professional has said if the patient has trouble understanding the information.

TOP TIP: Patients usually prefer answering questions about themselves- Try to give them the opportunity to speak first, but sometimes you might need to give them a helping hand to remember all of the details
