Encouraging family involvement in other settings

• Where feasible/safe, encourage patients to bring a family member/friend to attend treatment sessions.
  • Family members can make patients feel more comfortable, calm, supported, and reduce boredom.
• Make family feel welcome in the inpatient setting by:
  • ensuring adequate visiting hours,
  • providing enough chairs at the patient’s bedside,
  • if possible, having a family room on the ward for patients and family to spend time away from the hospital bed.
