Understand how the patient wants their family involved, and try to facilitate this
- If patient preferences are not clear, try to find an opportunity to speak with the patient (preferably alone) to better understand the patient-family relationship and how they want their family member to be involved.

Some patients like their family taking the lead, while others prefer for their family to be more in the background.
