How can you communicate with health professionals?

There are lots of different ways you might communicate with health professionals during the treatment of cancer and also afterwards.

You might meet them:

  • In consultations/appointments at their private rooms
  • In a hospital clinic
  • In a treatment room
  • On the wards at the hospital
  • Or in other places, such as a hallway.
  • You will speak to them face-to-face, and maybe through email or over the phone.

While this training will focus on communicating with health professionals in consultations, many of the skills you learn will be useful when interacting with health professionals across many different settings (for example a GP, occupational therapist, or pharmacist).

Top Tip: Ask your  doctor or nurse what is the best way to get in contact with them if there is something important to discuss.
