Specific Strategies

Remain alert to cues indicating the family member needs more information

  • Look out for cues from family carers that indicate informational needs. Cues may be in the form of:
    • Direct questions e.g. “Is this type of cancer hereditary?” or
    • Indirect statements e.g. “I don’t know much about the different treatments”.

    • Ask family carers if they have any questions or if there is anything they would like to know more about 26 .
