Introduction
- While family carer involvement is important, it should not come at the cost of patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Two common difficulties which can arise when family are involved, are:
- Family requests for patient information without patient consent, and
- Discussing sensitive issues (e.g. sexuality, prognosis) with patients when family are present.
