Understand patients' preferences for how information will be shared with their family

  • Ask patients if they are happy for you to speak with family member/s without them present.
  • If patients are happy for separate conversations with family to occur, understand how much information you can disclose to the family without the patient present. 25,35
    • Some patients prefer that any discussions between family and clinician occur only when they are present. 8,36
