Who should be involved in a patient’s care?

  • Having one or two carers attend a consultation can be beneficial, however, sometimes more than this might be impractical. Have a think about who might be the best person/people to attend your consultations.
  • Whilst it would be ideal for the same carer/s to attend consultations (for consistency), this may not be possible for some people. In this situation there may be 2 or 3 carers who share the role.
    • If there are a few carers sharing the role, it can be helpful if they communicate (with your permission) with each other to keep up to date about the medical information and decisions.
  • It can be helpful to accept (or ask for) help from a wider network of your family, friends and acquaintances. Often, family and friends want to help out, and letting them know what you need is very useful.
